Description

The Segugio Italiano is an ancient breed known for its exceptional scent-tracking and hunting skills. Originating from Italy, this hound has been a favored companion for tracking game like wild boar and hare for centuries. The breed is admired for its endurance, agility, and keen nose, making it a top scent hound in Europe. Segugio Italianos stand between 19 to 23 inches tall and weigh 40 to 60 pounds. They come in two coat types: short-haired and rough-haired, both dense and weather-resistant. Coat colors include fawn, black and tan, and chestnut. Their almond-shaped eyes and drooping ears contribute to their alert and focused expression. Known for their loyal, intelligent, and gentle temperament, Segugio Italianos are loving companions who bond closely with their families. They are friendly with other dogs and generally good with children. Early socialization helps ensure they are confident and well-behaved. Training a Segugio Italiano is rewarding, as they respond well to positive reinforcement and enjoy working. However, their independent nature may require creative approaches. Regular exercise is crucial, and they excel in activities like tracking, scent work, and agility. Grooming is straightforward, requiring regular brushing and hygiene care. They are generally healthy with a lifespan of 10 to 14 years but can be prone to hip dysplasia and ear infections. Routine veterinary care and a balanced diet contribute to their well-being.
