Description
The Cavapoo, also known as the Cavoodle, is a small designer breed that results from crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a Poodle, typically a Miniature or Toy Poodle. This hybrid is known for combining the best traits of both parent breeds— the gentle and affectionate nature of the Cavalier and the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the Poodle. Cavapoos are popular for their adaptability, friendly demeanor, and charming looks, making them ideal companions for families, couples, singles, and seniors.
Standing between 9 to 14 inches tall and weighing between 12 to 25 pounds, the Cavapoo is characterized by its compact, well-proportioned body and soft, wavy, or curly coat. Coat colors range widely from shades of cream, apricot, red, and chocolate to tricolor or even black. Their large, round eyes and floppy ears give them a sweet, approachable expression, adding to their endearing appeal.
Cavapoos are known for their friendly, affectionate, and social nature. They form strong bonds with their families and are especially gentle with children, making them an excellent choice for households with kids. Inheriting the Cavalier’s loving temperament and the Poodle’s intelligence, Cavapoos are naturally eager to please and thrive in family environments. They are usually good with other pets and adapt well to different living situations, from apartments to larger homes.
Daily life with a Cavapoo involves moderate exercise and plenty of companionship. They enjoy walks, playtime, and interactive activities that engage their sharp minds, such as training games and puzzles. Their intelligence and eagerness to please make them relatively easy to train, responding well to positive reinforcement. Cavapoos need human interaction and do best in homes where they receive ample attention and affection, as they can become lonely or anxious if left alone for long periods.
Caring for a Cavapoo includes regular grooming, particularly if their coat is curly or wavy. Brushing a few times a week helps prevent matting and keeps their coat healthy. Depending on the coat type, professional grooming may be needed every few months. Regular ear cleaning, dental care, and nail trimming are essential to maintain their health. A balanced diet that fits their size and activity level is important to keep them in good condition.
